How to connect
Plug in a USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard before pressing Connect MIDI keyboard, then allow access when the browser asks. Web MIDI works in Chrome, Edge, Opera and Firefox. Safari doesn't support it, but computer keys and the on-screen piano still work there.
If your keyboard makes its own sound, switch Sound off to see the waves without doubling the audio. The sustain pedal (CC 64) is supported.
What you're seeing
Each row is one note's air-pressure wave over a short window (20 ms by default), slowed way down so you can follow it. The bold row is their sum, which is what actually reaches your ear. Notes are in piano tuning, so the sum slowly changes shape as close harmonics drift in and out of step.
Roughness uses the same Plomp–Levelt model as the essay, measured against a cluster of the same number of neighbouring keys.
